Sunset date night spots in Kent, UK

It's finally summer and the best time to take date nights outdoors. As a family photographer in Kent, I've spent a fair bit of time scouting out good locations for dreamy sunset spots - and most of the places I find would make for a lovely, romantic date night spot. I thought it would be helpful to make a little list, in case any one is looking for ideas.

1. Margate’s Seafront

Why it’s romantic: Artistic, retro beach vibes.

  • You could start the evening in any Margates cool, independent bars and restaurants, before taking a stroll around Dreamland. Dreamland is a small, retro style outdoor fun park. It was there when I was a kid and has been lovingly restored over the years. I absolutely love losing myself for an hour here.

  • As golden hour arrives, head down to Main Sands with fish & chips, or try the rooftop at No. 42 Guesthouse, featuring panoramic sunset views paired with seafood and cocktails.

2. Whitstable & Seasalter

Why it’s romantic: Chill beach-town energy with dramatic sunsets and seafood.

  • The beach at Seasalter is a hidden gem—its mudflats reflect fiery evening skies for that peaceful, cinematic moment.

  • After sunset, wander into town to dine at places like the famous Wheelers Oyster Bar for local seafood under twilight skies.

  1. Botany Bay, Broadstairs.

Why it’s romantic: Chalk cliffs, secluded golden hour.

  • Botany Bay’s dramatic chalk backdrop and secluded vibes make it ideal for an intimate sunset picnic. This is actually one of my favourite places to photograph the golden hour!

  • Bring a picnic or head up to Broadstairs town afterward, with its charming cafés and harbour.

  1. Fackenden Down and One Tree Hill, Sevenoaks.

Why it’s romantic: Elevated countryside panoramas with nature’s soundtrack.

  • Fackenden Down offers wide darent-valley views and evening tranquillity after a short walk from Shoreham station.

  • Nearby One Tree Hill gives sweeping views over the Weald—perfect with a blanket, a bottle of wine, and soft conversation.

  1. Wye National Nature Reserve.

Why it’s romantic: Chalk hilltops with horizon-to-horizon vistas.

  • Ascend to the Wye Crown or edge of Devil’s Kneading Trough for panoramas stretching to Romney Marsh and Dungeness—offering more dramatic views across the Kent downs.

  1. Rochester Castle, Medway.

Why it’s romantic: Historic stonework bathed in rosy twilight.

  • Enjoy the view of Rochester Castle silhouetted against pastel summer skies—an atmospheric and photogenic date-end point to explore town afterwards .You can sit up on the hills by the castle and it offers views over the river.

Bonus Spots for Date‑Night Extras

  • Deal Pier & Seafront: Romantic strolls & sunset fish suppers, with foodie credentials like The Rose and The Blue Pelican.

  • The Pantiles, Tunbridge Wells: Chic Georgian arcades, al fresco summer jazz and bars—great for post‑sunset drinks near the chalybeate spring.

Tips for the Perfect Sunset Date

  1. Timing matters: Summer sunsets in Kent occur late (8–10 PM). Arrive early to claim your spot.

  2. Blankets & layers: Even in summer, Kent evenings can be nippy—bring a cosy layer.

  3. Pack essentials: Wine, snacks, a speaker, or binoculars—make it your own mini sunset ritual.

  4. Respect the countryside: Stick to paths, carry litter home, and enjoy responsibly in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Kent’s summer sunsets are a blend of coastal drama and pastoral serenity, offering endless options for that magical date-night moment. Whether atop chalk hills, beside historic piers, or on sandy shores, every spot encourages togetherness, conversation, and connection with nature.

Have you tried any of these? I’d love to hear about your favourite sunset date—or if you're planning one, let me know where and when you're headed!
