Capturing the beauty of pregnancy in a serene, natural setting creates timeless memories. Jersey, in the Channel Islands, offers some of the most picturesque beaches that serve as ideal backdrops for maternity photoshoots. My favourite thing about the beaches in Jersey, is how different each one is. We're on a small island, edged entirely by coastline and yet, no cove or bay is the same. We have everything, from long stretches of white sand to moody, rocky bays with dramatic cliff sides.
Here are five stunning beaches in Jersey that will make your maternity photoshoot truly unforgettable.

Long Beach
Long Beach is one of my favourite for a photoshoot - and not just because I'm a Gorey local. Its expansive sandy stretch offers plenty of space to move around and find the perfect angle. Even at the highest tide times, there's still some sand available and as it's on the east side of the island, we get golden hour a little bit earlier - ideal when you've got littles to keep up.
Best time to shoot: Early morning or late afternoon for soft, warm light.
Features: Long white sandy beach, backdrop of Gorey castle and grassy dunes behind.
Long Beach’s simplicity allows the focus to remain on the mother-to-be, making it a versatile choice for both candid and posed photos.

La Braye
La Braye offers a more dramatic backdrop, with views of Corbiere Lighthouse in the background, big surfing waves and the best sunset on the island (in my opinion). Tide times can be trickier here as the high tides can almost swallow the whole beach, but if you want that perfect sun setting in the sea backdrop, then it's worth being a bit flexible with timings.
Best time to shoot: Sunset, when the tide is low.
Features: Big, dramatic waves, a lighthouse backdrop and the best sunset.
The unique landscape of La Braye adds depth and interest to maternity photos, especially when paired with soft, flowing fabrics.
St. Ouen’s Bay
St. Ouen’s Bay is known for its dramatic coastline and powerful waves. This beach is ideal for a maternity shoot that embraces nature’s raw beauty. The long stretch of sand backed by dunes and cliffs offers multiple vantage points for varied shots. It's just up the way from La Braye, but also has the advantage of being opposite a big nature reserve - great if you want to add a couple of different elements/backdrops.
Best time to shoot: Sunset for vibrant skies and golden light.
Features: Gold sand, sand dunes, nature reserve, amazing sunsets.
The dynamic environment of St. Ouen’s Bay can create striking images that celebrate strength and serenity.
Bouley Bay
Bouley Bay is a stony beach on the North coast of Jersey. I love this for a more moody atmosphere. On an overcast/foggy day, you can get some incredible shots of the grey sea, stony shore and the little island that's only an island when the tide is higher.
Best time to shoot: Morning for soft light and fewer visitors.
Features: Large pebbles, quiet and moody atmosphere.
To me this beach has a very calm and atmospheric feel to it.

Portelet Bay
Portelet Bay is a hidden gem with a small sandy beach surrounded by cliffs and wildflowers. This location offers a cosy and intimate setting perfect for capturing tender moments. The bay’s natural enclosure provides shelter from wind, making it comfortable for expectant mothers. It's a bit of a walk down but so worth it!
Best time to shoot: Late afternoon for warm, golden light or early morning when it's quiet and the light is soft.
Features: Small sandy beach, cliffs, wildflowers, and sheltered cove.
Portelet Bay’s charm lies in its peacefulness and natural beauty, making it a perfect spot for gentle, emotive maternity photos.
