What Makes Natural Light Photography So Special and why do I use it?

In the world of photography, light is everything. It shapes the mood, highlights emotions, and brings out the best in every subject. As a newborn, family, and maternity photographer based in Kent, I’ve always been drawn to the beauty of natural light. It’s timeless, authentic, and perfectly complements the precious moments I capture for families. I base my brand around creating natural and emotive work and I think the best way to do this is by using the natural elements. Natural light keeps skin tones looking how they should and picks out all the colours we see with our own eyes, without any harsh elements or colour casting.

My Approach: In every session I do, I'm looking at the light. Where is it, what temparture is it? Is it cool and moody on a winters day, or golden and glowing on a summers evening. Is it bright sunlight and what shadows will that create? Can we play with the shadows? What's the best way to position my families so the light is the most flattering? I love an in-home session and the first thing I do upon arriving, is to scout out the rooms, I look for windows where the lights coming in. Positioning people next to windows can create beautiful effects.
